Dearest…Chapter One By gracie b.

My cell phone buzzed. It’s a text from Lexi. It read, ‘ meet u @ mill creak mall @ 3!!’ I am going to the mall with Lani and Lexi. They are twins.

My name is Macy Macintosh and my friends’ names are Lani, Lexi, and Max, whose real name is Maxine. She likes Max better. How we met is a long story. It all starts with a stamp. Well, technically a letter, but it also was a stamp. It all started on a day like any other day. Well, mostly. You will see what I mean.

I was running down the sidewalk trying to get to the mailbox before the mailman. ‘Thump, thump, thump’ the rhythm my feet made, made me make a mental note to write that rhythm down when I get home. In my hand I had a letter to my cousin that my mom made me write.

Dear Casey,                       9/6/11
Hi! This is your cousin Macy wishing you a happy birthday. Wow 8! You are such a big girl!! I hope you like your present!

Love,
Macy

Cheesy, I know. But it’s a ‘Happy Birthday You’re 8!’ card and so on and so forth. My cousin Casey is REALLY annoying. She lives in Minnesota and I live in Virginia. She comes and visits every year and now she is eight. Which means eight times more annoying. Anyways, back to the story. Where was I? Oh! Now I remember. I was running and when I reached the mailbox I looked around for the mailman. He was nowhere in sight. So I stuck the letter in the mailbox and ran away.

Then it hit me. I didn’t put a stamp on the letter! I ran home to get a stamp, eventhough it might be too late. But then I thought ‘I could still catch him!’ When I was running, I ran right into someone playing football. That person was none other than Maxine ‘Max’ Larrson the football player.
“ Oops! Sorry I didn’t see you there.” Max said.
“ It’s fine.” I said rubbing my head.
“Where are you running to?” she asked.
“ I’m trying to catch the mailman!!” I answered.
“ Oh, I saw him turn on Willow Street, that way” she said pointing to the left.
“ Okay, thanks!” I said.
“ Sure thing!” she said.
So, I ran to the left. And eventually I caught up with the mailman.
“Here you go, I forgot the stamp.” I said out of breath.
“ Why thank ya, young lady!” he said with a southern accent.
I nodded, out of breath, and waved as he drove away. While I was walking home I turned onto Maxine’s street. She was still outside playing football.
“ Hey, who are you?’ she yelled when she saw me.
“ Who me?” I asked, as I got closer.
“Yeah you.” She said flatly.
“ I’m Macy. I live on Lincoln Street. So do you really play football?” I asked. “Uh-huh. My name’s Maxine but you can’t call me that. You and everyone else besides my mom have to call me Max.” She said tossing the ball around.
“ Oh, that’s neat and…okay.” I say. “Well, bye”.
“Bye.”
I run home thinking about my run-in with that girl ‘Max’. Hmn. I wonder, “does everyone in the world besides me play a sport?”

To Be Continued…………

Much Ado About Anne: a Mother-Daughter Book Club book.

Much Ado About Anne is the second book in the Mother-Daughter book club series. This year the mother daughter book club reads two books: Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea.
Like all the other books in this series, this one is full of adventures. This year, the mothers invited snooty Becca Chadwick and her mom to join the club. Jess is worried about losing Half Moon Farm. Megan is up to her ears with fashion designs. Cassidy is busy with her ice hockey team and changes in her family. Emma is trying to figure out figure skating. And with a year filled with the adventures of Anne Shirley they all have plenty to do!
Megan and Emma’s careers get a boost. Megan’s designs jump out of her sketchbook and onto the runway! Emma is offered the position of editor on her school!
Megan’s mom takes everyone camping. A camping trip that goes horribly wrong. Cassidy being good at every sport, including backpacking has to lead the way and take charge; but bossy Mrs. Chadwick isn’t too fond of that!
In the first book, The Mother-Daughter Book Club, Megan, Cassidy, Jess, and Emma went to New York with their mothers, and Cassidy’s mom, a former super model, showed Megan’s fashion sketchbook to the editors of flash magazine. They decided it’s perfect for the new magazine called FLASHLITE. In this book the magazine is finally published! Jess struggles to save her family’s farm. Becca has a great idea to save half moon farm. The Mother-Daughter Book Club will model Megan’s fashions designs!
My favorite part of this book was when they did the “four seasons of fashion” Fashion show!
Will they save half moon farm? Will they survive a year with Becca Chadwick in their book club? Read the Mother-Daughter Book Club books and find out!!
